Globalization creates unexpected relationships and contrasts in contemporary art. This series focuses on the significance of exhibiting a variety of works in a pluralistic art world. Inspired by salon-style hanging, most commonly attributed to the Salon de Paris held during the 18th and 19th centuries; Broadway Gallery NYC continues this legacy with a contemporary and fresh outlook. Following a trend of previous exhibitions at Broad way Gallery NYC, this show pays tribute to the format of a salon hanging. It is a tradition that awakens contemporary culture to a dynamic collective consciousness.

A few notable themes in this exhibit that cross cultures are romanticism, spirituality, and humanity. Part of an ongoing series, Artists at Home and Abroad reaches out to the diverse community of New York. In addition to the exhibition on display at Broadway Gallery NYC, are several concurrent Internet projects, and a print catalog. Furthermore, this exhibit offers writers and viewers an exciting opportunity to submit essays and comments on the nature and significance of biennials, fairs and public exposure for new and emerging artists.

This exhibit uses the space as another medium altogether; incorporating the maximum floor-to-ceiling gallery space activates the wall with art works in various media by artists, each of whom offer a unique perspective to the show. These artists have transformed the gallery walls into a compendium of generational takes on figuration, portraiture, and abstraction.

Visitors will be surprised to see the stunning results. The speed of interactions via new media allows for global artistic conversations previously unheard before. In an attempt to integrate the numerous artistic languages, this exhibit was installed in a unique format. Two long parallel walls have been carefully installed to create dialogue in the spatial order. Artists at Home and Abroad allows the viewer access to some of the past and current pivotal artistic ideas while introducing newer talent, to generate fresh creative energy through unexpected juxtapositions.

PULSE Contemporary Art Fair has announced that PULSE New York 2012 will take place from May 3 through May 6, returning for a second year to its Metropolitan Pavilion home in the heart of Chelsea. The decision was made by Cornell DeWitt, the Director of PULSE Contemporary Art Fair, stating that “Since PULSEʼs founding there has been a perennial challenge in staging our New York fair in a relatively short time after our Miami fair in December. While I am extremely proud of everything we accomplished in New York in 2011, having an extra two months will give us an even greater opportunity to deliver the exceptional fair that our exhibitors and guests have come to expect from us.” PULSE New York has traditionally been held during the first week of March since its founding in 2006, where it coincided with the Armory Show arts week. In its new dates in May, the fair will now take place alongside the recently-announced New York edition of the Frieze Art Fair.

While I am extremely proud of everything we accomplished in New York in 2011, having an extra two months will give us an even greater opportunity to deliver the exceptional fair that our exhibitors and guests have come to expect from us.”

PULSE New York has traditionally been held during the first week of March since its founding in 2006, where it coincided with the Armory Show arts week. In its new dates in May, the fair will now take place alongside the recently-announced New York edition of the Frieze Art Fair. However, the decision to move dates was not based on an endorsement of either fair. As DeWitt explains “We have been very fortunate to have had a long-running relationship with the Armory Show and MMPI that has been both open and mutually beneficial. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors and also want to extend a warm welcome to Frieze on its new endeavor. At the end of the day, this move will allow PULSE to focus maximum attention on our New York fair, our new Los Angeles fair in September, and our flagship Miami fair.”

Through its annual editions in New York, Los Angeles and Miami, PULSE provides a unique platform for diverse galleries to present a progressive blend of renowned and pioneering contemporary artists, alongside an evolving series of original programming. The fair’s distinctive commitment to the art community and visitor experience makes PULSE unique among art fairs and creates an art market experience that is both dynamic and inviting.
