Art Rotterdam1
Art Rotterdam takes place from February 4 to 8.

Art Rotterdam launches Object Rotterdam, international fair for autonomous design. Simultaneously with Art Rotterdam, the international fair for autonomous design, Object Rotterdam, takes place in the nearby Las Palmas. Object Rotterdam is the platform in the world, where people can find the latest developments of unique, or limited edition functional objects of international designers. It is the place where the cutting-edge between art and design becomes evident.

The tenth edition of Art Rotterdam was a great success. Over 11,000 art lovers visited the art fair in the duration of five days. Compared to the 2007 edition Art Rotterdam attracted more people from abroad. The international press was very enthusiastic, and described Art Rotterdam as an art fair where plenty of new talent could be discovered. The international galleries were also very satisfied. Chemould Prescott Road Gallery from Bombay sold all the works of Anant Joshi, and Gallery Willem van Zoetendaal the entire installation of Sarah Blokland to Caldic. Caldic immediately gave the installation on loan to the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. The Scheringa Museum bought an installation of Sylvia B.

The Illy prize has become an important part of Art Rotterdam. In 2008, this prestigious prize is awarded to the most innovative artist at Art Rotterdam. The winner, Alexandra Leykauf, was announced on Wednesday February 6. She received €10,000 in prize money.
