ART COLOGNE

The 44th ART COLOGNE will open its doors in Cologne from 21st to 25th April 2010. For a total of five days, about 180 galleries from Germany and abroad will be presenting works of modern art, post-war art and contemporary art. Through selected works and carefully assembled presentations, the galleries will offer fascinating insights into the history and present state of the avant-garde. They will display paintings, sculptures, installations, videos and photography, works on paper, editions and multiples. In short, ART COLOGNE will cover the entire spectrum of the fine arts of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Visitors at ART COLOGNE will find specialized sources of information about current trends and offbeat creations in the New Positions program, which young up-and-coming artists have been using since 1980 as a special “laboratory” for experimenting with new ideas. This sponsorship program has already served artists such as Neo Rauch, Candida Höfer, Günther Förg and Rosemarie Trockel as a springboard into the international art market. Visitors can also make exciting discoveries in the area of New Contemporaries, where young international galleries display works by selected artists from their portfolios. Ever since 2005, ART COLOGNE has been using OPEN SPACE to explore new ways to stage an art fair. Liberated from the traditional booths, project-oriented and equipped with a special architecture that is adapted to each individual art presentation, Open Space offers a temporary environment for contemporary art. The focus here is on individual artists’ positions.
