The first edition of the “Biennial of the End of the World” (Bienal del Fin del Mundo) is an Argentinean contribution to the International Polar Year 2007/2008. The event is a joint project between Argentina and Brazil and is actualized by the Argentinean Fundación Patagonia Arte y Desafío with the institutional support of the Fundação Memorial da América Latina from São Paulo, Brazil. Basically, the Biennial’s theme can be summarized as ” pondering at the end of the world, what other world is possible ” (Pensar en el fin del mundo, qué otro mundo es posible). An aesthetic discourse of such sorts shall be articulated by linking art and politics with poetry, ecology and technology.

After receiving 920 entries for the 2007 Portland Museum of Art Biennial exhibition, the Portland Museum of Art is pleased to announce that 98 works by 61 artists have been selected for the show. This past summer, artists submitted 3,680 images to be considered by a panel of three jurors: Ellen Miller, founder of Miller Block Gallery in Boston; Johnnie Winona Ross, nationally recognized artist and former faculty member of the Maine College of Art; and Judith Stein, freelance curator, art critic, and author. The jurors spent a weekend in September viewing images and selecting the work for next year’s Biennial. Of the 61 artists chosen, 17 have exhibited in previous Biennial exhibitions.
