The Legendary Raw Arts Festival heads to New York in January 2007 to offer a fresh alternative to the New York Outsider Art Fair as one of the first major non-mainstream art festivals to hit the states. This is New York’s first festival to be led by and run for the raw artists themselves. In the beginning, the Raw Arts Festival made its critically acclaimed debut in London in August 2004 and followed up bigger and better in May 2005. It has been widely recognized as “London’s largest and best International exhibition of self-taught art mounted to date.” In 2005, the creator of the Raw Arts Festival began collaborating with NY Arts Magazine to create “Spain’s first non-mainstream art festival” in Valencia 2006. The collaboration has continued and resulted in The Raw Arts Festival – New York 2007.

The event will exhibit 28 well-established and self-taught/Outsider artists’ work from all over the world, including Dover Abrams, Maggie Campbell, Sunny Chapman, Brain Dowdall, Bethany Fancher, Stephen Judges, Mike Kelly, Akiko Kitami, Nino Korinteli, Jessica Lum, Paula McCullough, Franco Meloni, Piers Midwinter, Joe Moorman, Lia Pantsulaia, Joel Pinkerton, Ben Reche, Renate Seffer, Robert Seven, Julia Sisi, Josh Slavin, Brian Steimel, Lynne Sweeney, Elizabeth Turnbull and Lori Vynalek. The Folkwares organization will also be present at Raw Arts, representing artworks by Michel Bayne, Dwayne Crocker and Tammy Leigh.
